Model averaging estimation of panel data models with many instruments and boosting

چکیده
Applied researchers often confront two issues when using the fixed effect-two-stage least squares (FE-2SLS) estimator for panel data models. One is that it may lose its consistency due to too many instruments. The other gain of FE-2SLS not exceed loss endogeneity weak. In this paper, an L2Boosting regularization procedure models proposed tackle instruments issue. We then construct a Stein-like model-averaging take advantage FE and FE-2SLS-Boosting estimators. Finite sample properties are examined in Monte Carlo empirical application presented.

Consistent Estimation, Model Selection and Averaging of Dynamic Panel Data Models with Fixed Effect
In the context of an autoregressive panel data model with fixed effect, we examine the relationship between consistent parameter estimation and consistent model selection. Consistency in parameter estimation is achieved by using the tansformation of the fixed effect proposed by Lancaster (2002). We find that such transformation does not necessarily lead to consistent estimation of the autoregre...
متن کاملParsimonious Estimation with Many Instruments
We suggest a way to perform parsimonious instrumental variables estimation in the presence of many, and potentially weak, instruments. In contrast to standard methods, our approach yields consistent estimates when the set of instrumental variables complies with a factor structure. In this sense, our method is equivalent to instrumental variables estimation that is based on principal components....
متن کاملConsistent Estimation with Weak Instruments in Panel Data
This note analyzes the asymptotic distribution for instrumental variables regression for panel data when the available instruments are weak. We show that consistency can be established in panel data.
متن کاملStrength and weakness of instruments in IV and GMM estimation of dynamic panel data models
It is shown that e¢ cient GMM (generalized method of moments) estimation of a linear model corresponds to standard IV (instrumental variables) estimation of this model, after transforming it such (as in GLS) that its resulting disturbances have a scalar covariance matrix, while using as instruments the original instruments linearly transformed by the transpose of the inverse of the matrix used ...
متن کاملa study on insurer solvency by panel data model: the case of iranian insurance market
the aim of this thesis is an approach for assessing insurer’s solvency for iranian insurance companies. we use of economic data with both time series and cross-sectional variation, thus by using the panel data model will survey the insurer solvency.
